Was it August 9th,the single most profitable day in Comic Shop history or was it in October, as the date given in OS indicates?ĭid comics go up in price in July of 1969 or did they go up in September 1969,which is the date on the first 15 cent comics? Its great that you love Bronze age comics,or any comics,but you really should learn a bit before you proclaim yourself an expert on the subject. In fact he talks of Famous Funnies coming out in May of 1934(with a July cover date) In it,in every example I see ,he uses the term cover date. In Overstreet #34, Robert Beerbohm,widely respected as THE comic historian has an aricle entitled The American Comic Book 1929-Present. Publishing dates are not listed in either glossary. Overstreet, in both the Grading Guide and The Price Guide refer to both arrival dates and cover dates. Please explain how you can say a book that is sold in Oct of 1986 was published in Feb. If you don't know why comics have cover dates on them,perhaps you should go back to comics 101. Kudos to the Bronze Age and all Bronze Age Comic Book Lovers!!!!! By the way, take a look at the Overstreet Hall of Fame several years ago- each Bronze Age book is referenced by the published date by Robert Overstreet himself (since he is the person who nominated the aforementioned books to the Hall). When did the time a book arrives at the newstand become the point of reference used by comic book collectors? The correct point has always been the published date. Then why have a cover date? If we follow your logic (if you want to call your way of thinking logical), then there is no reason to have cover dates. Why do you think there is so much interest in store date stamps? Because,in many cases,that is the only source of when a book was released. Please give me one place where OS discusses publishing dates?
